He has retired from football, while her singing career faded long ago.
But Brand Beckham is bigger than ever with David and Victoria raking in almost £100,000 a day last year, according to the latest accounts filed by the couple.
The pair generated £35.1million in 2012, with the former Spice Girl-turned-fashion designer pulling in £15.4million – almost as much as her husband.
However she has some way to go
before she challenges David as the main breadwinner. Most of her
earnings are eaten up by the cost of running her business.
The success of Beckham Ventures – the firm linked to 39-year-old Victoria’s clothing label – saw turnover more than double from £6.7million in 2011. After administration costs, she made a profit of £1.4million, compared with a £1.6million loss the previous year. The Beckhams put this turnaround down to the new Victoria, Victoria Beckham fashion line.
This additional line…has been a key driver in growing revenues,’ the directors’ report states.
The pair’s pay packets are no doubt needed to help fund their homes across the world, including LA and France, and their extensive travel itineraries which see them fly more than 100,000 miles each year.
They also have a huge entourage of advisers, security teams and drivers to help run their lavish lifestyle. They have four children together, Brooklyn, 14, Romeo, 11, Cruz, eight, and Harper Seven, two.
Footwork Productions, which
looks after David’s income from sponsorship and image rights, grossed
£16.5million thanks to lucrative contracts with companies including
Adidas and H&M. It posted profits of just £390,500, but the company
made a £14.1million payout to the highest paid director – believed to be
Beckham himself.
The couple’s Beckham Brand company, whose function, according to Companies House, is to ‘exploit the brand of David and Victoria Beckham’, had a turnover of £3.2million, with a profit of £1.2million. Beckham Ventures paid £435,000 in corporation tax, Beckham Brand £490,000 and Footwork £98,000.
Miss Beckham’s clothing range has proved a hit with celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow and Julia Roberts since she unveiled her first collection in 2008.
Beckham, 38, retired from football in May, after helping Paris St Germain win the French league title. He donated his £170,000-a-week salary during his five months with the French club to a children’s charity. In 2012, he was earning £1.95million-a-year base salary with US club LA Galaxy. The former England captain has long-term ties with brands such as Pepsi and Coty, which sells a David Beckham fragrance, and in the past year he has advertised Sky television and Sainsbury’s.
The 2012 accounts, filed at Companies House, say that they expect a ‘sustained level of endorsement income during 2013’.
Beckham is Britain’s wealthiest sports star, with a fortune of around £165million. Together, he and Victoria are said to be worth £190million. Earlier this month it emerged they had sold their Hertfordshire mansion for a £10million profit and were looking for a £45million home in West London.
